　　如果将整个故事以法国革命时的路易十六作为背景，则：

　　　　可能是花天酒地的意思，也可能是其他朋友说的以骰子定生死的意思，但没查到有关这个的记载。

　　看了整首英文歌词，根据lz和别的一些朋友的翻译和自己的理解，我认同这首歌当中的“我”应该是路易16。
　　
　　再结合歌曲名，我感觉表达的就是：人只要活着，只要活的有意义，只要活的真诚，就算再困苦也比即使是高高在上的皇帝，但“当我掌权（其实只不过傀儡），就没有再听到过真话”的“我”，要好得多！！
　　
　　另外：（1）我听的mp3和看过现场mtv，都听到开头一段是“sweep”，“sleep”应该接不上意思吧，前面一位朋友说日文版歌词是“sleep”就不知道何解了！

　　这一句歌词，令我联想到，皇帝被推翻他本人肯定认为造反的是“妖民”（他自己是正统），于是乎这个情景就是“一股妖风把门吹倒，连同我的人也拖了进去”——估计是叛军攻入皇宫那一类情节，表达出皇帝在绝境时候的心态，认为这是天要亡他（而不是错在自身）。

　　我最近也打算翻譯一下這個歌詞。
　　談談我的看法。個人覺得這是關于耶穌的歌曲，如果脫離了《圣經》的背景，很難理解其中的一些意思。
　　第一段中seas would rise if I gave the word,在《出埃及記》中摩西曾經將紅海分開；耶穌也曾經訓斥過大海，讓它平靜下來。
　　看看第二段歌詞：“先王已死，新君萬世”，應該是耶穌將要被處死的時候，猶太人嘲笑他說：“來，看以色列的王！”，但也可以是表達那段王朝更迭的歷史。新王換舊王，更迭不休。
　　第三段鹽柱的典故在《創世紀》中曾經出現過一次，耶和華要毀滅兩座罪惡的城時，羅得的妻子回身張望，變成了鹽柱；但我不確定此處典故是否就源自《創世紀》；又，《馬太福音》中耶穌在登山寶訓中曾說“把房子建在磐石上”。這里我覺得是否在說世上歷代的君王，他們的統治根基都是極其脆弱。
　　“我的明鏡，我的盾，我的劍”應該不是傳道者，我記得耶穌臨死之前曾經向上帝禱告，祈求上帝賜他力量。
　　"Revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate"《圣經》中有關于施洗者約翰的記載。他的頭顱后來被希律王放在銀盤中。
　　I know Saint Peter won't call my name《圣經》中耶穌曾經對彼得說“在雞叫之前，你會三次不認我。”
　　就算這首歌有這么多的宗教背景，但是通篇看下來，還是晦澀難懂的，也許這正是這首歌的魅力所在吧。就像《Hotel Califonia》，有人認為是寫美國中產階級的，有人認為是通過癮君子的眼睛看這個世界，然而不管有多少爭議，世人依舊吟唱不休。

　　這句話典故實在是來自《圣經》。當日耶穌自知自己即將赴死，彼得曾經說“哪怕別人全都因你的事而失足，我也永不失足！”耶穌回答說：“我實在告訴你，今天晚上雞叫之前，你必三次不認我。”圣彼得只是耶穌的門徒而已，如果翻譯成 “我深知圣彼得不会召唤我名”，倒反而顯得圣彼得的地位較耶穌為高了。
　　另外，和大家分享一下我們康熙爺寫的關于耶穌的兩首詩，其中有些意境和此歌相似：
　　 功成十字血成溪，
　　　　百丈恩流分自西。
　　　　身裂四衙半夜路，
　　　　徒方三背两番鸡。
　　　　五千鞭挞寸肤裂，

　　只是。。。一些地方和我的理解有些出入。。。
　　第一处："Be my mirror my sword and shield
　　My missionaries in a foreign field.
　　我异疆的传教士啊，
　　我的明镜，宝剑与盾牌由你们担当"
　　我觉得My missionaries in a foreign field应该是接着前面一句押韵的，只不过省略了Be。也就是说，My missionaries并不是此句的主语，而应该和前面的mirrow, sword 和 shield一样是宾语。所以我认为，应该翻译成"请成为我的明镜，宝剑与盾牌，我在异疆的传教士"
　　第二处，"Once you go， there was never, never an honest word 自你离去，我便再未听过之字真言"。第一，"之"是错别字，应该是"只字真言"。第二，这个翻译在句子的时态上不统一。"go"是present tense, 现在时态（？我不知道专业术语在中文里怎么说。。。）"was"是be动词的过去时态。而coldplay是不可能犯语法错误的，因而解释只有一个，那就是这里的句子是在做一种假设/猜测，所以这里用"was"。因此，这句话应该翻译成"一旦你离去，我就再也不可能听到只字真言"。也就是说这里的"once"不能解释为"自从"，而应解释为"一旦"。

　　根据St.Peter的圣行，我认为St.Peter won't call my name有两个含义。
　　
　　一，路易十六曾经是很想有一番作为的君主。欧洲君主的最高梦想应该就是被教皇封为“罗马人的皇帝”，也就是神圣罗马帝国皇帝。欧洲的君主都称国王或大公，皇帝在同一时期只有一位。也就是神圣罗马帝国皇帝。而圣彼得的墓地正是今日梵蒂冈小教堂的圣坛底下。
　　
　　二，St.Peter的圣行主要是传教方面的。路易十六在北美殖民地问题上本来是很想有所作为的。但后来一方面自己的改革失败，另一方面看到了法国和英国的差距。才成为了当世屈指可数的锁匠。
